Stop the Execution of Reggie Clemons

Everyone acknowledges that Reggie Clemons did not murder Julie and Robin Kerry. He was sentenced to death - at age 19 - as an accomplice. But even his complicity is in question.

 No physical evidence ties Clemons to the crime - or the events leading up to it

• His conviction was based on two witnesses. One was a former suspect who initially confessed to the crime. Charges against him were dropped after he testified against Clemons. The other, a co-defendent who got a lesser sentence in return for his testimony.
  
  
• Four federal judges agree that there was prosecutorial misconduct in the case. There are also allegations of police coercion.
  
  

  Questions of race involved throughout the trial

• Reggie Clemons is African American. The victims were white. So were the two crucial eyewitnesses.  Race, particularly race of victim, biases the U.S. death penalty.
  
  
• Blacks were disproportionately dismissed during jury selection, resulting in an unrepresentative jury given St. Louis’ sizeable black population.
