I also urge you to press for UAFA to be included in Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation. Comprehensive immigration reform will fix our nation’s broken immigration system. Including UAFA in this reform will fulfill the historic goal of family unification under U.S. immigration policy by allowing gay and lesbian Americans to sponsor their life partners for immigration to the United States. As you may be aware, under current law Americans are forced to make heartbreaking choices, including leaving the United States to be with the person they love. I am sure you will agree that it is unfair to force any American into exile, separating them from their family, friends and community. The UAFA is the most effective way to keep loving families together, and I hope that you will cosponsor this bill. Comprehensive Immigration Reform legislation is moving forward in Congress. Please ask the leadership of the Senate and House Immigration Subcommittees (of the Judiciary Committees) to include UAFA in these bills.
