CALLS NEEDED TO SUPPORT THE CALIFORNIA STATE PARK ACCESS PASS!
HELP SOLVE THE FUNDING CRISIS FOR STATE PARKS BY SUPPORTING THE STATE PARK ACCESS PASS!
The State Park Access Pass Programprovides a realistic solution to our state park funding crisis. By making a modest $10 annual investment in our state park system, Californians will receive the benefit of free access to all state parks and contribute overall to the improvement of California state parks.
California state parks have not only been a reservoir of history and culture, but also a safe haven that protect unique natural resources. Unfortunately, lack of proper funding is hampering the state park system from retaining these resources and its ability to flourish into the future.
WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Earlier this year, 48 state parks were in danger of closing and lifeguards from 16 state beaches faced elimination. We must fight to keep our state parks open and thriving.
This proposal will be debated over the next weeks and we need your calls to urge support for its passage as it advances in the budget process. The already-overdue state budget is still being negotiated by legislative leaders, who have signaled that budget votes may be scheduled for early August. Please help us show the strong, statewide support and urgency for including the proposal in this year's budget.

Last month, the National Trust for Historic Preservation listed the California state park system as "endangered." This measure can be the remedy to our deteriorating state park situation, keeping our parks open and accessible for future generations.
Talking Points for your call:
KEY POINTS:
The state park system's decades-long fiscal crisis has caused the foregoing of basic annual maintenance and upkeep, low staffing levels, few or all-together absent educational programs, and decreased visitor support. This proposal must be approved by the Legislature and included in the 2008-2009 budget so that these problems may be addressed.
The California State Park Access Pass is a sustainable solution to our state park funding crisis. By implementing a $10 surcharge on annual vehicle registrations, the proposed program would generate more than $280 million a year for state parks. And in return for their support, Californians receive free day-use access to all state parks.
This proposal carries with it the ability to resolve the unnecessarily prolonged problem that has plagued the state park system for years. By providing a realistic and secure solution to the state park funding crisis, it has the potential to greatly improve the health of the state park system for now and well into the future.
State parks offer Californians a wealth of history and culture. They are home to an abundance of natural resources that are irreplaceable. And they provide us access to numerous recreational opportunities. The State Park Access Pass Program is a good investment and can ensure that all these things that state parks offer can stay intact and available for future generations.
