REGISTER FOR PCL'S ANNUAL LEGISLATIVE SYMPOSIUM "STEPS TO A SUSTAINABLE CALIFORNIA" ON

FEBRUARY 7, 2009

For more than 40 years PCL has been building the grassroots momentum and changing state policies to protect the environment and quality of life for all Californians. Our commitment to this endeavor is strong - so strong that we have focused our next Environmental Legislative Symposium around the theme of "Steps to a Sustainable California."

In order to ensure a sustainable future for all of us, we will need to tackle some of our most pressing issues and improve how we make our decisions related to land use, global warming, water and public health. At the Symposium, PCL will be unveiling a strategic policy platform focusing on building the momentum to achieve the Sustainable California we envision. We will also debut the PCL History Project -- where you can relay your stories about how PCL has contributed to your local efforts.

Registration is now available for the PCL-PCL Foundation Symposium and Banquet. The event is on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Sheraton Grand in downtown Sacramento. Details about the policy sessions, How To… Workshops and MCLE courses are available online.

PREPARE FOR SUCCESS: PCL FOUNDATION BRINGS LOCAL CLIMATE ACTION TRAINING TO THE SILICON VALLEY

The Loma Prieta Chapter of the Sierra Club, Greenbelt Alliance, and the Planning and Conservation League are pleased to announce a free workshop to introduce you to the tools you need to help your local government accelerate the fight against global warming by improving local development decisions!

Hear from Greenbelt Alliance's Senior Policy Advocate Stephanie Reyes and PCL's Global Warming Program Manager Matt Vander Sluis about how to ensure that we reduce our impact on the climate and improve our quality of life. Hear the nuts and bolts of policies that would cut the carbon footprint of new developments proposed in your area, including:

Recent developments in the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA);
Green building and energy efficiency standards;
Best practices for climate-friendly land use planning.

For attending, you'll receive a copy of the Planning and Conservation League's Local Climate Action Toolkit, which includes success stories from across California and gives tips on how to organize community support and ensure strong governmental action.
