LINKING LAND USE AND GLOBAL WARMING: LEARN MORE AT THE PCL SYMPOSIUM
In California, much of our carbon footprint comes from the shape of our communities. The growing distance between our homes and businesses makes getting a gallon of milk a lengthy ordeal that often involves hopping in the car. Instead of transit lines, freeways run in ribbons across the landscape. And forests and farmland vanish to make way for driveways and cul-de-sacs.
To win the fight against global warming we have to change our land use patterns. Fortunately a growing number of state and local leaders are championing land use policy reform, as demonstrated by recently-passed SB 375 (Steinberg), which revises regional planning to better align with our climate goals.
Join our panel of experts at PCL's 2009 Symposium to learn about the latest issues in carbon-cutting land use policy at the state, regional, and local level.
Panelists:
O Mary Nichols, Chair, California Air Resources Board (invited)
O Dave Jones, Assemblymember, California Legislature
O Stuart Cohen, Executive Director, Transportation and Land Use Coalition
Register early for the PCL-PCLF Symposium and Banquet. The event is on Saturday, February 7, 2009 at the Sheraton Grand Hotel in downtown Sacramento. For more information, contact Melanie Schlotterbeck at (714) 779-7561 or MSchlotterbeck@pcl.org.
