Take Action: Tell @WhiteHouse and Congress to Protect and Strengthen SNAP

From the Steps of the White House to the Front of the Capitol – Tweet the White House and Congressional Leadership

As Fiscal Cliff negotiations continue to heat up, we need to keep up the momentum.  Urge President Obama and Congressional Leadership via social media to protect and strengthen SNAP and reject any SNAP cuts that might be on the table during negotiations. In addition, urge the President to protect tax credits for low-income working families, including the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC).

It’s time to rally - here’s how you can participate:

  • Follow FRAC on Facebook and Twitter.
  • Use our sample tweets and posts to urge President Obama and Congressional Leadership to protect and strengthen SNAP, other nutrition programs, and tax credits that help low-income working families, including the EITC and CTC on Twitter and Facebook. You also can simply retweet messages from FRAC.  While we hope you will tweet at the White House all week, we hope you will target specific congressional leaders on the following days:

- Tuesday, Dec. 11: Speaker of the House John Boehner, @SpeakerBoehner
- Wednesday, Dec. 12: Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, @SenatorReid
- Thursday, Dec. 13: House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, @NancyPelosi
- Friday Dec. 14: Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, @McConnellPress

  • Don’t forget to include these hashtags in your messages: #SNAPworks and #talkpoverty
  • Tell your friends and followers to join you. Ask your networks to take action during this crucial time.

As of December 11, 2012, H.R. 760 -- a resolution opposing cuts to SNAP -- has over 100 co-sponsors.
