CNR Awaiting Presidential Signature – Advocates Press Congress to Fix SNAP Cut in Remaining Days of Lame Duck Session

SNAP Fix Supported by FRAC’s New Polling Data Showing Overwhelming Support for Federal Efforts to End Hunger and for SNAP

While announcement of the date of the Presidential signing of The Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act (S. 3307) is expected shortly, advocates anticipate that the signing will be accompanied – in a signing statement or in prepared remarks – by a strengthened commitment by the President to fix the SNAP cut contained in the bill.

This week and in the remaining days of the Lame Duck session, advocates are redoubling efforts to push for the SNAP fix to be included in any legislative vehicle. This effort is supported by a recent FRAC poll conducted by Peter D. Hart and Associates, demonstrating overwhelming public support for federal efforts to end hunger and for SNAP.

Take two actions today:

  1. Call your Members of Congress today (Switchboard – 202-224-3121), and urge them to fix the SNAP cut during the lame duck session.
  2. Call the White House, 202-456-1414, and urge the President to fix the SNAP cut during the lame duck session.

During your calls, share these findings from the FRAC poll:

  • 80 percent of Americans believe that low-income children and families not being able to afford enough to eat is a very or fairly serious problem for the country;
  • 74 percent say that SNAP is a program that is very or fairly important for the country;
  • 71 percent say that cutting SNAP would be the wrong way for Congress to reduce spending next year; and
  • 73 percent say that Congress should reduce other kinds of spending – not cut SNAP – to pay for increased funding for school lunches.
