(Pinal County, Ariz.) In August 2008, a witness reported that a man had tied a horse to the back bumper of his truck and dragged the horse down a road. When a deputy caught up with him, Gordon Allen Bates was allegedly beating the horse repeatedly with a PVC pipe while his 13-year-old daughter kicked the horse in the head, while both yelled at the horse to get up. Bates is charged with one count of felony cruelty to animals. A trial date is currently scheduled for Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 10:00am with Judge Soos presiding -- locals are encouraged to support the prosecution and attend the court proceedings.
