Join President Obama in the Fight Against Hunger

Sign One Table's petition. Thank President Obama for supporting policies that will make the United States a global leader in the fight to significantly reduce hunger and poverty around the world.

Mr. President,

Thank you for recognizing that the fight to end world hunger in our lifetime is too important to wait.

Since you assumed office, you have consistently supported policies that will help many break the cycle of hunger and poverty, as well as help improve the lives of millions of the world's most vulnerable people.

In your budget, you increased support for programs that will help pregnant women get proper nutrition so their babies can start life off healthy and strong; sustainable agriculture and help for the world's small farmers, who grow food to feed their own families and communities; and critical assistance that bolsters education and economic development around the world.

Along with other world leaders at the G-8 summit in Italy, you pledged an unprecedented $20 billion in agricultural aid to help make sure the world's most vulnerable can feed themselves today, tomorrow and next year.

We share your belief that world hunger and poverty are solvable problems. However, more than a billion people still go to bed hungry each night. As you know, many of them are women and children.

You hold the most powerful office in the world. Please continue to make the fight against hunger and poverty a priority in your Administration and strengthen programs that will help us meet the United Nations Millennium Development Goals to halve hunger and extreme poverty by 2015.

We urge you to designate a high-level position within the White House to design, implement and oversee a government-wide comprehensive strategy to address global hunger – a leader who can bring different interest groups, powerful people within the U.S., and interests from around the world to the table.

We also ask that you hold our leaders in Congress and the other leaders of the world's most prosperous nations accountable. Urge them to deliver on promises to not only increase lifesaving international aid, but to fully fund the commitments already made.

Sincerely,
