Fight For Our Environmental Protections!

The Issue:

We have finished with the Florida Legislative Session, and it is an understatement to say that what many of us hold most dear about Florida — its exceptional wildlife and wild places — are going to be much harder to protect as a result of this year's Legislative actions.

For example, CS/CS/CS/HB 993 makes it nearly impossible for citizens to prevail in any challenge against a bad environmental permit. The bill also opens the door for wholesale weakening of most rules designed to protect the environment and quality of life for Floridians.

We have been up against powerful and well-funded business interests that want to sacrifice environmental protection in the name of balancing the budget and making it much easier to sacrifice wild places for a fast buck.

Still, Save the Manatee Club and our partners successfully fought to preserve most of the manatee critical care program funding, despite a very difficult state budget shortfall. Left on their own in the wild without a chance of being rescued, or denied rehabilitative care at a licensed facility, critically injured manatees and orphaned dependent calves would not be able to survive.

What You Can Do:

Please add your information below to send a message to Florida Governor Rick Scott, asking him to veto any bill that weakens or eliminates environmental protection. Specifically we ask you to urge him to veto CS/CS/CSHB 993.
