Thursday, October 23, 2008 Border Action Network Needs Your Support at Francisco Javier's Memorial
Border Action Network members and volunteers will be in front of the Evo A. Deconcini Courthouse holding a daily memorial for Francisco Javier during the retrial of U.S. Border Patrol Agent Nicholas Corbett. We hope to see you out there to support Francisco Javier's family, along with helping us renew our message that this case unfortunately does not stand alone, and is part of a broader need for better training, more accountability and oversight within the Border Patrol, and that agents must be held accountable for their actions.

Wednesday, October 29, 2008 Join Arizona Advocacy Network and Border Action Network for a Night of Training and Information
5:30 pm Help Protect the Vote on November 4th!
We know that this will be a very high turnout election with many new voters. It will also be the first presidential election under Arizona's voter ID law. In recent elections far too many voters have been turned away because poll workers incorrectly interpreted the ID requirements. Others were turned away because they were not on the rolls. You can help ensure that such voters are not wrongly turned away at the polls by becoming part of our Election Protection team. We are seeking volunteers willing to work morning and/or evening shifts at targeted polling places. The Arizona Advocacy Network Foundation will train you in how to remedy the most common causes of disenfranchisement at the polls and equip you with the tools you will need to protect the vote.
7:00 pm Cutting through the confusion and clutter--A rational Review of the 2008 Statewide Ballot Measures
Does allowing a nearly 400 percent interest rate really constitute a "reform" of payday lending? Do further protections for insurance companies that refuse coverage constitute "Freedom of Choice" in health care? Does it make sense to require a 4/5ths majority of those that vote to pass every citizen initiative? Come hear the background, facts and likely impact of all eight 2008 ballot measures as the Arizona Advocacy Network Foundation presents their acclaimed Review of the 2008 Statewide Ballot Measures.
Both sessions will be held at Centro Digna, located at 842 S. 6th Ave (@ 19th Street), in Tucson, AZ. ____________________________________________________________________________________ For more information, call (520) 623-4944 or email us at ban@borderaction.org.
