Border Action's Director Goes on Sabbatical

As we round the corner on Border Action's tenth anniversary and my own tenth anniversary with the organization, I have been privileged to be granted a three-month sabbatical from late November to late February. Stepping back for a few months will not be easy, but it is important for my growth as a leader and for the development of the organization. Border Action has grown leaps and bounds in the last two years. We've brought on new, incredibly smart staff in new program areas. Our organizing committees are taking on profound leadership in their communities. Our board of directors is very engaged and highly experienced. Over the next three months, I'm excited and confident that we will all learn from this experience and from it, the organization will be even stronger.  And to answer the most frequent question I get: no, I don't have big plans for my 3-months. I'll be in Mexico City for a little while, the mountains of Flagstaff, and perhaps a brief escape to Vietnam (cross your fingers that this one happens!). Otherwise, I'll be hiking around the mountains of southern Arizona, enjoying this beautiful place we live in!  In my stead, you can contact Katie O'Connor at katie@borderaction.org or 520.623.4944 See you in February!

January 21st: Immigrant groups will march a day after Obama takes over

The immigrant vote proved crucial for Obama, and on January 21, the day after he is sworn in as the 44th U.S. president, immigrant rights organizations will take to the streets to ask Obama to consider immigration reform one of his priorities. A group of Border Action human rights promoters is preparing for the upcoming trip to Washington D.C. where they will join in this grand effort!
