Border Action Update
Tuesday, August 11, 2009
Hi Supporter,
While the national spotlight is on the health care debate, we are digging in to prepare ourselves for a tough fight for immigration and border policy reforms later this year. The backlash movement (formerly known as the "tea-baggers") has been turning out in angry mobs at town halls across the country. They will surely stick around for the immigration debate; we've got our work cut out for us. In spite of them, we are encouraged by the tremendous response and excitement on the ground in immigrant communities in Arizona. We're up for a good struggle, there's no doubt. Please read on and know that your support of Border Action is what keeps all this going! Thank you!

Border Action launches state wide organizing drive for immigration reform "El Tiempo Es Ahora!"

From July 2009 to October 2009, Border Action Network launched a bold initiative that put our organizing and education process on wheels, traveling throughout the state of Arizona to identify and engage new members in how to participate be part of the movement calling for immigration reform and to call for rights and accountability on the US-Mexico border.
From small towns to large cities, including Yuma, San Luis, Somerton, Ajo, Casa Grande, Gila Bend, Globe, Guadalupe, Goodyear, Buckeye, Surprise, Glendale, Flagstaff, Prescott, Willcox, Cottonwood and other towns, we are getting people prepped and primed to have their voices heard by national leaders. There's always changes at Border Action Network…Here's a behind the scenes update:
Welcome Michael Monyak, our new Administrator!
We were very sad this summer to lose our previous administrator, Julia Goldin to San Francisco where she, her new baby and husband are settling in. Julia got Border Action's books ship-shape and left some big shoes to fill. Continue reading...

No State Trust Lands for Border Vigilantes!
If you have been a member of Border Action for a few years, you will remember when we made a big push in 2005 for the AZ Land Department NOT to renew the infamous border vigilante rancher, Roger Barnett's grazing lease on 14,000 acres of state trust lands. We were not successful, but we have not given up. Continue reading...
