Border Action Update
Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Hi Supporter,

Congress is getting back to work, summer is out the door, school has resumed and the pace picks up! Here at Border Action we've just wrapped up an intensive 3-day tour for Hill staff of the Arizona-Sonora border. Even though I've been here at Border Action for ten years, I'm still shocked by how skewed our border and immigration policy is every time we lead a group around the border. The suffering, brutality and urgency remain higher than ever. At the same time, over the three day trip, I also saw that we've been able to forge incredible alliances and friendships around the region --from local law enforcement, environmental organizations, faith leaders, business owners and chambers of commerce, and rural property owners. I urge you to read more about the Congressional trip to the border, but between the lines I hope you also see the ever growing voice for human rights, dignity and meaningful policy change coming from every part of Arizona border communities!  This is something we can all be proud of.

Thanks for all you do and the opportunity to work with you,
Jennifer Allen,
Executive Director

The 2009 Quadrennial Homeland Security Review process, a web-based interactive dialogue designed by the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to allow your opinions and ideas to inform and strengthen the Department's relationship with its vast array of partners and stakeholders, has been up and running for a few weeks now. The online portal, however, will stop taking comments this Sunday, September 6. Continue reading...

Job Openings at
Border Action!

Help us spread the word and find great people to work with us.

We're excited to announce three position openings at Border Action. We wish we just hit a windfall of resources and they're all new positions, but sadly, we're saying good-bye to a couple of excellent staff at Border Action Network. Katie O'Connor, our Grants and Program Coordinator is leaving Tucson to be with family in the even hotter clime of Palm Springs, CA. Ana Maria Rivas, our Communications Coordinator, will be shifting over to contract work which will still keep her busy designing our publications, materials and web page. In light of all these and other changes, we shifted around some of the job descriptions and responsibilities in the organization and voila! --we have these three newly designed positions:

Membership & Events Coordinator (view)

Associate Director (view)

Communications Coordinator (view)

Please help us spread the word to any and all qualified applicants.
