TODAY, the Arizona House will take a FINAL VOTE on HB2537, a bill that will give Senate President Russell Pearce and House Speaker Kirk Adams unlimited power to use taxpayer dollars to hire lawyers to file lawsuits on behalf of SB 1070 and intervene in all legal proceedings involving 1070!
Last year, the Legislature passed SB1070 even though they knew it would be challenged, and though we have an Attorney General whose job is to defend the state, legislators still want to spend our tax dollars on ideology that is destorying Arizona. If signed into law, this bill will amend last year’s HB 2162 (passed to amend SB 1070) to authorize the Senate President or House Speaker to direct counsel to initiate a legal proceeding or appear on behalf of their respective chambers or on behalf of the legislature in any challenge in a state or federal court to SB 1070 and any amendments to it.
