Tell Your AZ Representatives to Vote NO on SB1406 and SB1495!
Urgent Arizona Action Alert
TODAY, Thursday, April 14th, the House Committee of the Whole (COW) will vote on SB1406 and SB1495. SB1406 would create an interstate compact that will allow Governor Brewer to enter into an agreement with other states to allow for the construction and maintenance of a state-sponsored fence along the Arizona-Mexico border.
SB1495 would authorize the Governor to establish an armed force known as the Arizona State Guard for any reason considered necessary. This is another ill-fated and politically motivated attempt to militarize our border with unqualified individuals.
Use the form below to take action against these bills!
SB1495: AZ State Guard; Establishment. First Sponsor, Sen. Silvia Allen, R-5 (pictured left). If signed into law, this bill would authorize the governor to establish an armed force known as the Arizona state Guard for any reason s/he considers necessary.
SB 1406: Interstate Compact; Border Fence. First Sponsor, Sen. Steve Smith, R-23. If signed into law, this bill would allow for the construction of a state-funded border fence located on private property. It also allows the state to develop own funding mechanisms to pay for its construction and requires that correctional inmates and private contractors are used to build and maintain it.
