HB2533 Unlawful Roadside Solicitation of Employment

HB2533 attempts to expand the definition of criminal trespass to carry a class 1 misdemeanor to include standing or remaining on any public highway, public street or any property adjacent to a public highway or street and disrupting vehicle or pedestrian traffic for the purposes of soliciting day labor employment. Trespassing is already a crime in Arizona, so this bill is completely unnecessary, insulting to people looking for an honest days work, and would amount to another kick to those who are already struggling during these hard economic times.

I urge you to vote NO on HB2533 “Unlawful Roadside Solicitation of Employment”! Arizona’s unemployment rate has soared to 8.2%. This means that more than 230,000 people are searching for work to support their families, pay rent, and even buy food. HB2533 attacks all people who are simply trying to make ends meet and have few options for finding employment. Trespassing is already illegal in Arizona, so HB2533 is unnecessary, redundant and is another kick to those who are already struggling during these hard economic times. The Arizona legislature should focus on creating jobs and bringing stability back to our economy, not finding ways to create criminals out of hardworking Arizonans. Please vote NO on HB2533.
