Tell the RNC and DNC to hold candidates accountable

The presidential campaign season is well under way, and most of the candidates have already proven themselves willing to use religion as a political wedge – making statements that ignore the wishes of the American people and our Constitution.

Religion should never be used as a political tool. Campaigns should be about policy issues that determine how a candidate would govern and how his or her actions would shape the lives of Americans. When personal religious beliefs get dragged onto the campaign trail, the integrity of religion and the vitality of our democracy both suffer.

We must change the tone of the election and put the focus back where it belongs: on our nation, our Constitution and the wishes of the American people. By working together, we can keep the upcoming election from devolving into the circus of one-upmanship and “my religious beliefs are better than yours” posturing that all too often hijacks our nation’s electoral process.

Please help Interfaith Alliance hold this season’s presidential candidates accountable and remind them of their responsibility to our Constitution by signing the letter below to the leadership of the Republican and Democratic National Committees. This letter stresses to the leadership of both parties that religious freedom is a right accorded to every American – and religion is not a political tool to be used to advance candidates’ campaigns or criticize their opponents. The more letters the DNC and RNC receive, the more weight our message will carry.

There’s much at stake as the election process gets into full swing in the coming months. Please stand with Interfaith Alliance today in working to put the focus of the upcoming election back where it belongs by signing the letter below to RNC Chair Reince Priebus and DNC Chair Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz.
