You Are the Future of WILPF

At this critical juncture in world history, it's time to take stock of the peace and justice movement that has grown in opposition to the U.S. led war on Iraq and other acts of aggressive hegemony.

WILPF is the most enduring women-led peace organization in the world; please join us to use this amazing organization to

  • proclaim our human rights
  • declare earth rights
  • articulate the need for a women's perspective on issues of war and peace

In the warmth of the Iowa sun, we'll re-gather our energies, define our identity, and envision a new century where our ideas are put into action. We'll leave with tactics and strategies that will inspire ourselves, inspire our country, inspire our world to greatness.

Special Days / Special Events:

Women 35 and younger will gather on June 24 to kick off the US Section affiliate of our international network for young members, Y-WILPF.

The congress kicks off with a plenary on the state of the world Thursday morning, followed by the unveiling of WILPF's strategic plan for organizational renewal.

Friday and Saturday evenings, we'll be joined by luminaries of the peace community because they recognize the important of our organization and we must take this time to honor ourselves.

Water, water everywhere. All registrants are invited to bring a 3 oz. vial of water from their home community for the opening water ceremony Wednesday evening. Water works continue on Saturday morning with an intervention/direct action at the Des Moines farmer's market.

Changing of the guardians. Spend time getting to know the incoming members of WILPF's national board. Explore ways in which you can take a leadership role in launching WILPF's re-vamped action and advocacy program.

Your issue at the forefront. WILPF's congress will include workshops, soap boxes, and gathering circles to help organize like-minded individuals. There's still time to propose a workshop based around your expertise and passion. Download the proposal application and submit by May 16 (details on form).

"It is not simply that women have the right to participate as equals. It is also that without women's participation and empowerment and without gender equality, sustainable peace, sustainable development and true human security are unattainable."
