Don't Extend NAFTA to Panama!

Do you remember NAFTA?  Remember how it allowed big U.S. agribusiness to dump grains in Mexico, pushing over a million farmers out of a livelihood and provoking widespread forced migration?  Remember how it allowed big U.S. companies to shutter scores of U.S. factories so as to exploit an underpaid and mistreated Mexican workforce?

How about some more of the same?  Some in our government now appear poised to extend the destructive NAFTA model through the Panama free trade agreement, which may come to a vote as early as this month.

The Panama FTA would even surpass NAFTA in bailing out big business.  Panama is widely known as a tax haven where AIG and Citigroup maintain subsidiaries to hide their profits.  If the Panama FTA is approved, these corporations—the same ones that recently used our tax money to pay executive bonuses—would gain extra safeguards to more easily evade U.S. taxes.

Tell your representatives not to replicate NAFTA in Panama.  Send the message below today.  (Feel free to personalize the message.)
