Avon, Walk the Walk: Get chemicals linked to breast cancer out of your products!

October is breast cancer awareness month, and thousands of people will participate in the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer because they have been touched by the disease and want to do something about it. Although Avon claims it is “in it to end it,” the company uses chemicals linked to breast cancer and other diseases in its products—chemicals like parabens, triclosan, and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.

In August, we challenged Avon to meet or beat Johnson & Johnson’s commitment to getting cancer-causing chemicals out of its products. Despite thousands of you writing to Avon, the company has yet to make this commitment.

Help us tell Avon that if it wants to be “in it to end it,” it needs to stop using chemicals linked to cancer and other diseases in its products. Write to the company using the form below.

I am writing to urge Avon to make a real commitment to women’s health this October by agreeing to stop using cosmetics ingredients linked to breast cancer, hormone disruption and other diseases that impact women’s health.

Avon is one of the largest cosmetics companies in the world, and it is one of the leaders in breast cancer awareness with the Avon Foundation’s Walk for Breast Cancer and the company’s pink-ribbon cause marketing. And yet, many Avon products contain chemicals linked to breast cancer and other diseases— chemicals like parabens, triclosan and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives.

Avon’s competitor Johnson & Johnson has committed to remove cancer-causing chemicals and other toxic chemicals linked to health problems from its baby and adult products worldwide.

I’m writing to ask your company to publicly meet or beat the commitments made by J&J for every personal care product your company makes in every market it serves.

If Avon is really “in it to end it” then it needs to stop using chemicals linked to breast cancer, hormone disruption and other adverse health impacts.
