Protect Children from Toxic Chemicals!
|
In the last two years, the media has increasingly covered scandals involving dangerous chemicals being found in a wide variety of every day products. Most troubling, children's products have been shown to contain a number of toxic products. Last year, Congress acted, setting standards for lead and phthalates in children's products. Unfortunately, Bush-era holdover Nancy Nord, head of CPSC, gave toy manufacturers a huge gift at the expense of our children's health: no enforcement is planned for the next year. That leaves those of us trying to feed and entertain our children in the lurch - we still don't know what's safe and what's not. Worse news, there are other dangerous chemicals like bisphenol A, mercury, arsenic, and toxic flame retardants in children's products. That's why it's so important for New York State to move forward quickly with bills that get rid of high-priority first chemicals like bisphenol A and toxic flame retardants first and create an infrastructure within the State for dealing with toxic chemicals in products. |
