HOLD CONGRESS ACCOUNTABLE!

THANK OR SPANK YOUR REPS. FOR THEIR "NO MORE SOLYNDRAS ACT" VOTE.

AMERICAN CLEAN ENERGY AGENDA GAINING MOMENTUM;
PLEASE ADD YOUR & YOUR ORGANIZATION'S SUPPORT NOW!

October 1, 2012

Dear Friends,

It's time to hold our Congressmembers accountable for their actions--both good and bad.

And now, at the height of election season, is the perfect time to begin.

We've set it up for you to "Thank or Spank" your Representative, depending on how he/she voted on the No More Solyndras Act, that ended the Department of Energy's loan guarantee program for most renewable energy projects, but retained eligibility for all the dirty nuclear power and coal projects.

Fortunately, the No More Solyndras Act will never become law, because the Senate has refused to even vote on it.

But that's no reason to give the House members who supported it a free ride, nor should we fail to thank those members who opposed this bill.

We've set it up so that your Representative will automatically receive the proper letter: a thank you for those who voted against the bill, and a letter of disapproval for those who supported it. You are, of course, free to edit either letter to reflect your own concerns.

You don't need to know which way your Rep. voted--our system knows--
but you can see the full vote chart here if you'd like.

So please Thank or Spank your Representative today!

Support the American Clean Energy Agenda!

A few months ago, we told you about the American Clean Energy Agenda, a new broad-based effort to bring genuine clean energy issues to the forefront of the debate next year, and to oppose efforts to include dirty technologies like nuclear power, "clean" coal, fracking, and industrial-strength biomass as "clean" energy sources.

We began this effort with 36 organizations initially signed on, we're now at nearly 100! And more than 2,000 individuals have signed our petition that will be presented in January to the new Congress.

This campaign will soon be releasing a new document--detailing steps that should be taken in the first 100 days of the next Administration to support clean energy. We'd like to be sure we have at least 100 organizations signed on when it's released!

A new website (
http://americancleanenergyagenda.org/) is being set up for this project. Right now, you can see the organizations that have signed on so far. If your organization isn't on this list, we hope you'll endorse this effort. Please send your name, organization name, and all contact information to us at nirsnet@nirs.org.

And if you as an individual haven't yet signed the petition in support of the American Clean Energy Agenda,
please do so here. But take a moment to share the petition page on Facebook, Twitter and the like before you sign.

You can
read and download the initial American Clean Energy Agenda document here.

Finally, thank you to everyone who has contributed to NIRS so far this year. Sometimes we hear about "kickstarting" and "crowdsourcing" as "new" funding concepts. Actually, we've been doing that for decades--because it is all of your tax-deductible donations that keep us going and allow us the privilege of doing this work. And it really is a privilege.

And now we have a special offer for you, because it's October and Thank or Spank reminds us a lot of Trick or Treat.... But in this case, we're making it Thanks and Treat!
We will thank everyone who contributes at least $25, either online or by mail (NIRS, 6930 Carroll Avenue, #340, Takoma Park, MD 20912), by October 31, 2012 with free CDs from two of our favorite people: Bonnie Raitt's Souls Alike and Ani DiFranco live at Carnegie Hall in 2002.

Don't forget: Thank or Spank! Support the American Clean Energy Agenda. Your actions matter.

Thanks for all you do,

Michael Mariotte
