Dear [Decision Maker]

Florida is about to get drilled and I want you to stop it from happening.  Right now, the U.S. is exporting record numbers of domestic petroleum while I’m being told that new domestic offshore drilling is necessary for increased supply to provide U.S. Energy Independence.  This just doesn’t add up.  More so, current proposals which would allow drilling as close as 50 miles to portions of Florida, Georgia, North and South Carolina, and Virginia, allow each state EXCEPT Florida to opt-out.  This is NOT a real solution for Energy Independence!

Florida has become the most popular tourist destination in the country largely because of its reputation for clear waters, world class beaches and beautiful coral reefs.  These resources support a $65 billion tourism industry, a $14 billion marine industry and a fishing industry that injects more than $6 billion a year to Florida’s communities.  As well, almost 1 million jobs depend on Florida’s reputation as a vacation destination.  Rigging Florida’s economy, putting Florida’s vacation destination image at risk, is a bad deal for Floridians.
