There is agreement that the U.S. needs better maternity and paternity leave policies, but while a recent review of 50 years of research finds that "Children whose mothers return to work before their offspring turn 3 are no more likely to have academic or behavioral problems than kids whose mothers stay at home," author Jan Hunt issues a challenge to rethink the value of motherhood, to the extent that perhaps government policies should reflect this revised value.
