API's Parenting Program

API's Parenting Program is currently undergoing an evaluation and redesign so that we can serve you better. We're striving to provide our trainings and education in an affordable, sustainable manner and based on the API Founders’ book Attached at the Heart.  We thank you for your patience as we work to provide you with the best possible program.  If you're seeking classes, read below for the many ways you can find support now through API's existing programs.  If you're seeking to become a parenting instructor, read below for the ways you can being your training today.

What's different about API's Parenting Program?

Most parenting classes typically result in some kind of positive change for about six months, after which parents revert to old practices if they are not provided with some sort of on-going support. Parents are often overwhelmed and exhausted, with more on their plates than they ever anticipated when they were expecting their first baby. When we're desperate for solutions, many parents tend to defer to the quick-fix that promises immediate relief even if it doesn't deliver lasting change.

Old habits die hard. That's why we need new thinking about old behavior. And that's where API comes in.

API’s program will deliver a revolutionary new way to approach parent education. More than a parenting class focusing on short-term solutions, API's program is envisioned to be a comprehensive series of classes for the major stages of child development from infancy through adulthood, providing tools for long-term family connections.

API's Parenting Program doesn't invest in the "quick fix," but rather the long-term. That's why parents won't learn techniques and tactics, but rather come away from every class with a deeper understanding of themselves and their children. Through this growth, API empowers parents to raise their families in a more secure, connected and compassionate home environment which children internalize and carry throughout their development.

API's Parenting Program is effective and comprehensive, based on proven methodologies and the most up-to-date research in attachment and child development. API's Parenting Program goes the extra distance, offering ongoing, long-term support to parents, through local support groups and online forums. To ensure the highest standards, API's Parenting Program measures class effectiveness over time.

Ultimately, the goal of API's Parenting Program is to provide parents with the tools they need to be successful as parents. So, instead of telling parents what to do, API's Parent Educators will give parents the tools to develop the mindset and the confidence they need to develop a nurturing, connected relationship with their children.

API's Parenting Program will be the realization of a long-standing dream of API co-founders Lysa Parker and Barbara Nicholson. Through the Program, API will be able to reach out to more people than ever before.

Immediate course of study in API Principles. Start training with API today!

Accreditation. This is the only path to become accredited to lead an API Support Group. API Instructors will be certified to offer classes, but not accredited to offer Support Groups.

High impact, low cost. API Leadership path is less costly than the Instructor path, and the ability to build a community of awareness and goodwill by offering free, API accredited, ongoing support is a priceless opportunity to influence parents of all situations and needs.

Build demand, offer expanded services. By becoming a Leader first, you have the opportunity to build a group that helps you generate awareness of and interest in API and healthy parenting in advance of offering your classes. You'll gain important demographic knowledge about your market and audience and learn the best approaches to public and community relations. Once you begin offering classes, graduates will appreciate the continuity of regular support and regular participation in a community of likeminded parents. In this setting, you can build demand for subsequent classes. If there's already an API Support Group in your area, becoming a Leader not only provides an additional level of support and resource in the community, but also allows greater group and leader flexibility. Talk with leaders in your area or region to begin an important relationship.

Advance work. Instructors will be required to undergo Instructor training prior to certification. By working through the leadership process in advance, you will be ahead of the game.

Support.  Access to a 15-year-old network of seasoned leader support. As an Instructor, you'll be offered myriad API support on many levels, but as a Leader, you'll have access to the Leaders Forum and the many other forms of Leader support that have been developed over the last 15 years.
