Demand Diversity from NBC

The world is rapidly changing, but the mainstream media isn't keeping pace. We need to tell NBC News that it is no longer acceptable to lock women and people of color out of the corridors of power.

The New York Times has reported that NBC is about to name a new moderator for "Meet the Press" and that Chuck Todd and David Gregory are being considered.  Both men are fine journalists, but they do not represent the racial or gender diversity that their viewers deserve.

It is important for viewers to be exposed to a broad range of perspectives and not exclusively those of Caucasian males.

NBC/MSNBC was criticized during the 2008 election for sexism in its coverage.  Picking a qualified woman and/or person of color to host "Meet the Press" would help repair some of the damage to the network's brand.  There is no shortage of talented individuals who could do the job, including CNN's Campbell Brown, PBS' Gwen Ifill or NBC's Andrea Mitchell.

"Meet the Press" is the number one rated Sunday morning public affairs program.  The program influences the outcome of elections, advances public policy and enhances the prestige of invited guests.  It is no longer acceptable to lock women and people of color out of the corridors of power.
