Stand Up For Forests and Rivers!

When most people think of the Illinois River watershed in SW Oregon they think of crystal clear swimming holes, iconic old-growth forests and rare wildflowers. But when the BLM manages these lands they mostly think about logging.

Currently the Medford BLM is accepting public comments regarding the "East West Junction" timber sale named after the confluence of the East and West Forks of the Wild and Scenic Illinois River. The BLM is proposing to log nearly 1,000 acres and to punch new logging roads into the native forests and salmon-bearing watersheds of the upper Illinois Watershed outside of the town of Cave Junction. Timber planners acknowledge that the proposed logging would increase fire hazard to nearby communities through the creation of logging slash and the reduction in forest canopy closure.
