Thank federal legislators for protecting the Chetco!

In early April, Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley and Representative Peter DeFazio introduced legislation to protect the Oregon Caves and Chetco River in southwest Oregon.  These bills are the result of people voicing their love of, and concern for, these special places over the years.

The Oregon Caves Revitalization Act would expand the boundaries from 480 acres to approximately 4,000 acres, based on the Cave Creek watershed, designate the nation's first subterranean Wild and Scenic River, known as the River Styx and remove cattle from a grazing allotment that overlaps with botanical areas and the Monument's drinking water supply. The Chetco River Protection Act wouldstrengthen designations under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and enact a mineral withdrawal for this salmon and steelhead stronghold.

Thank you for introducing legislation last week to protect the Oregon Caves and Wild and Scenic Chetco River. I deeply value these special places and appreciate your efforts to safeguard them for future generations.
