Tell Obama to treat AIDS at home and abroad

Activists have been saying for years that AIDS treatment is among the best tools out there for ending the pandemic.

A few months ago, US-funded scientists proved we were right. They found that AIDS treatment reduces the risk of HIV transmission by 96%.

Now the science is clear but we are still waiting for White House leadership.

Sign the petition below to encourage President Obama to use the new evidence to dramatically scale up AIDS treatment at home and abroad.

Dear President Obama,

A few months ago ground-breaking US-funded science proved that antiretroviral AIDS treatment not only keeps people alive—but reduces the risk of HIV transmission by 96%. With AIDS treatment we can stop millions of deaths and, combined with other efforts, we can halt new infections. We can end the AIDS crisis.

Now is the moment: we need your leadership to end the pandemic.

If you work to expand access to ARVs dramatically—and defend the AIDS funding needed to do it—you could be the President to put us on track to end AIDS.

I’m writing to ask you to:

1) Tell the President’s Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief program to immediately and dramatically scale up access to AIDS drugs by 2013—to prevent and treat HIV and help galvanize the global AIDS fight.

2) Do everything in your power to ensure that PEPFAR, the Global Fund, and domestic AIDS programs get at least the funding you put in your budget—please remind Congress that ending the AIDS pandemic will not wait.

3) Fight for the expansion of Medicaid and  other specific resources needed to ensure access to ARVs and care to all those in the US who need them, including a permanent end to state waiting lists for ARVs.

Sincerely,
