Hi Friend!
New York Senator Gillibrand, at the request of grassroots constituents, has agreed to do a sign-on letter in support of full funding for global AIDS (PEPFAR and Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria) that ends Friday!
We need your help to call your Senators TODAY to ask them to sign-on to this Dear Colleague letter showing their support of PEPFAR and the Global Fund in t
he federal budget. The value of this letter is minimized unless we get lots of senators to sign on. We're under a tight deadline - this has to happen by Friday. They will not fight for this if we don't ask.
Can you help? The best thing to do is call your Senator's office right now. The call script is below.
You can find out their phone number here. You can also call the United States Capitol switchboard at (202) 224-3121 to get directly connected to your Senator's office. Each state has 2 senators so make sure you call them both.
Please let us know how the call went and if they said yes. Don't hesitate to get in touch with Akudo (akudo@healthgap.org) if you have any questions. Thanks for all that you do.
GO TEAM!!
CALL SCRIPT
Hi.
May I speak with someone who deals with foreign affairs issues?
My name is ___ and I am a resident of [state name].
I know there is a "Dear Colleague" letter circulating from the office of Senator Gillibrand of New York. Have you seen it?
As a constituent, I am calling to urge Senator ______ to sign it. The letter calls for increases to the U.S. budget for fighting global AIDS, through PEPFAR and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB, and Malaria. PEPFAR is a successful foreign aid program, that saves lives, and that increases the U.S. popularity outside of our borders. If you want more information, I have the contact information for Jordan Baugh in Senator Gillibrand's office. His email is Jordan_Baugh@gillibrand.senate.gov. The deadline is THIS FRIDAY. Will Senator ______ sign on?
[Wait for response. If you are leaving a message, tell her to call you back and leave your phone number.]
How soon will you be able to make a decision about this?
[Get as much info as you can and then say]
Thank you very much and I hope to hear soon that he/she is signing the letter.
