Urge your Senators to confirm Judge Sotomayor

On Tuesday the Senate Judiciary Committee, by a vote of 13 to 6, approved Judge Sonia Sotomayor’s nomination to be an Associate Justice of the U.S. Supreme Court, paving the way for a vote by the full Senate as early as next week. Throughout the hearings, Judge Sotomayor has made it clear that she holds the deepest respect for prior Supreme Court decisions, including the central decision in Roe v. Wade that legalized abortion.

We are confident that she will continue to uphold a women’s right to choose and will promote the dignity and well being of Latinas, our families and our communities. We call on the Senate for a swift confirmation, making her the first Latina judge on the Supreme Court.

As a constituent in your district, I stand behind the nomination of Judge Sonia Sotomayor to the Supreme Court and urge you to support her confirmation to become the next Supreme Court Justice.

Throughout her confirmation hearings, Judge Sotomayor demonstrated the courage and conviction necessary to make critical decisions on behalf of all Americans. Supreme Court decisions have a tremendous impact on our daily lives, making it all the more necessary to have an extremely qualified Latina serve on the U.S. Supreme Court who understands and respects the diverse experiences of all people in this country.

As one of our nation’s leaders in the U.S. Senate, I urge you to focus on her exceptional judicial career that spans 17 years in the federal court. That experience, in addition to her academic experience and her role as a New York City prosecutor should make Judge Sotomayor's confirmation an easy choice.

She is exactly the kind of judge all Americans would be proud to see on our Supreme Court!
