Help End the Frog Legs Trade!

Please send the letter below to Uncle Julio's CEO Mr. Todd Conger, urging him to remove frog legs from the menus of the sixteen Uncle Julio's Rio Grande restaurants.

Frogs worldwide are rapidly going extinct. The frog leg trade is a direct contributor to the depletion of wild frog populations; the spread of invasive species; and the spread of harmful infectious diseases such as the chytrid fungus. To date, Uncle Julio's has refused to address the fact that their trade practices are contributing to the worldwide extinction of amphibian species.

Let's make sure Mr. Conger knows that this issue isn't going to disappear. Send him your letter today and help put an end to frog leg sales!

I am writing to urge you to remove frog legs from the menus of Uncle Julio's sixteen restaurants.

Amphibian populations have been declining worldwide at unprecedented rates, and nearly one-third of the world’s amphibian species are threatened with extinction. Up to 200 species have completely disappeared since 1980. The frog leg trade is a direct contributor to:
1- the depletion of wild frog populations; 
2- the spread of invasive species; and 
3- the spread of harmful infectious diseases.

Uncle Julio’s imports farm-raised frogs from China. A recent study showed that up to 62% of the farm-raised Asian frogs entering the United States were infected with the chytrid fungus (Batrachochytrium dendrobatidis), which has driven up to 100 amphibian species to complete extinction in recent decades. Whether they are farm-raised or wild-caught, the frog leg trade wreaks significant damage on amphibian populations and on Earth’s ecosystems. As such, the only certain way to ensure that Uncle Julio’s is not a direct contributor to amphibian extinctions is to remove frog legs from your restaurant’s menus.

I will not be eating at Uncle Julio’s Rio Grande restaurants until and unless you remove frog legs from your restaurants’ menus. Furthermore, I will be suggesting to my friends, relatives and colleagues that they also refrain from eating at Uncle Julio’s Rio Grande. However, should you make the responsible decision to assist amphibian conservation efforts, I will be happy to patronize your restaurants.
