Presentations on black-footed ferrets and sage grouse will highlight the annual Endangered Species Day celebration May 18 at the Outdoor Campus West in Rapid City. The event, sponsored by an array of environmental groups, will be free and open to the public. It begins at 5:15 p.m. with dinner, followed by a program from 6:15 p.m. to 7:15 p.m. by U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service biologist Terry Quesinberry, who will discuss federally listed endangered, threatened and candidate species in South Dakota. His presentation will include the black-footed-ferret reintroduction program in South Dakota and other states. Following an intermission and awards, Bureau of Land Management wildlife biologist Chuck Berdan will discuss the greater safe grouse in South Dakota. He will also talk about BLM planning efforts to protect the sage grouse and threats to the species. For more information contact Nancy Hilding at 787-6779
