Idaho Power gets nearly half of its energy from coal-fired power plants located in Oregon, Nevada, and Wyoming.  Although company executives are aware of the environmental, health, and economic risks of mining and burning coal, they have made no firm committment to reducing Idaho Power's dependance on coal-fired generation.  In fact, the company is now considering investing tens of millions of ratepayer dollars into retrofitting its coal plants to keep them in compliance with environmental regulations and to keep them polluting our land, air, water, wildlife, and families for decades to come.

The decision to phase out coal should come from Idaho Power executives on behalf of responsible environmental stewardship and social justice, and should not hinge on the economics of the "retire or retrofit" scenario, alone.

Idaho Power customers CARE about where their power comes from, and Idaho Power needs to show that it cares, as well.
