Urge Your Congress Member to Ensure Funding for Health Care!
March 23, 2011 marks the one-year anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA). In its first year, the ACA has already made significant strides to improve the health and well-being of our country. For Southeast Asian Americans across the nation, the ACA dramatically improves access to health insurance, helps develop culturally and linguistically skilled health professionals, and invests in quality community-based preventative and primary care.
Unfortunately, provisions in H.R. 1 target ACA for elimination and defund key protections that will negatively impact the lives of hardworking families. Specifically, H.R. 1 includes provisions that prohibit “the use of funds…from being used to carry out the provisions of the president’s health care law." Furthermore, the bill includes widespread and deep cuts to community health centers, public health services, and programs that train the next generation of culturally and linguistically skilled health professionals. If these health care protections are repealed, elders will lose the help they need to cover the cost of their prescription drugs; working families will struggle to pay for expensive insurance premiums; small businesses will not be able to use tax credits to purchase coverage for their employees; and people will once again be denied coverage because they've been sick.
Let Congress know how important it is to support the Affordable Care Act! Send a letter to your Member of Congress now!
