Protect Our Oceans From Offshore Oil Drilling
what have we learned?
The vitality and diversity of the ocean is being compromised largely by one terrestrial species…US. It is unfortunate that it takes catastrophes such as the Gulf Oil Spill for us to realize our direct connection to the vulnerability of our life support system.
Deepwater Horizon exploded on April 20th, 2010 and was finally capped 86 days later. It took weeks to finally determine the total of amount of oil leaked; experts now say 4.9 million barrels spilled into the Gulf from 1 mile under the surface of the sea, making this the largest marine spill in history. 1.8 million gallons of toxic dispersants were also added, making this the largest toxic experiment ever conducted in a body of water.
A clean energy future is possible but we need your voice!
Please consider writing to President Obama asking him to prevent another disaster by:
- banning all offshore drilling in any new areas
- supporting renewable energy technologies and research
In the good times, we get complacent, but it is now, in the bad times, that we must demand better protection for the environment and be willing to make some sacrifices ourselves.
Writing letters and conserving energy may not seem like much as we watch wildlife, marshes, beaches, and people’s lives damaged, but it’s something we can each do now and it can be part of the shift toward a better future.
Please enter your information below and customize your letter. You can use the text below as a starting point but President Obama needs to hear why this issue is important to you.
Thank you,
