ANF timber fund money dip won’t affect county finances

SMETHPORT — Townships and school districts containing portions of the Allegheny National Forest expect to receive somewhat less Department of Agriculture money this year for their share of proceeds from timber sales, but McKean County’s coffers will not experience a revenue shortfall.
That was McKean County Commissioner chairman Joe DeMott’s appraisal of the situation Friday, when he spoke with a reporter.
The amount local government receives from timber harvests is 25 percent of the seven-year average of sales of timber lying within the boundaries of each “host” municipality, DeMott explained....More
