By Cathy Pedler, Forest Watch Coordinator

This Earth Day we had a busy week. Our speaking schedule took us from Erie to Philadelphia. Allegheny Defense Project Board Members and Staff spoke about the battle to protect the forest ecosystem and the Allegheny River Watershed on the Allegheny National Forest (ANF) and on other public lands in Pennsylvania. On April 19 and 22, The presentations at Gannon University in Erie, PA and the Wooden Shoe Bookstore on South Street in Philadelphia discussed the current crisis in the state including the opening of thousands of acres of state forest land to oil and gas leasing. ADP led the charge to protect state forest lands from oil and gas drilling the last time state legislators tried to give away the public's lands. The presentations emphasized that now, with the drilling of the Marcellus Shale across Pennsylvania, the conservation community must act immediately and aggressively to protect the state's watersheds, and forest ecosystems.

April 24-25 we had a successful clean-up at Rimrock and camp-out at Tracy Ridge. And finally, with your help we met the challenge of our anonymous Earth Day donor and have raised over $1,000 to meet our donor's match! Thank you all!
