ANF-ASP Flight with Lighthawk, Adirondack Mountain Club, Carl Heilman II, and Allegheny Defense Project
On October 18, Neil Woodworth, Executive Director of the Adirondack Mountain Club, Bob Keller, our Lighthawk Pilot, Carl Heilman II, nature photographer, and I took a flight together over the Allegany State Park (ASP) and the Allegheny National Forest (ANF). Our mission was to document the destruction of the ANF near the ASP border (see image below) where US Energy had recently polluted Yeager Brook, a tributary of Quaker Run in the Allegany State Park and toto fly south to document the Marcellus Shale Gas well drilling sites on the ANF and on the in-holdings within the footprint of the Allegheny National Forest....more

DEP Admits It Has No Authority To Permit Water Withdrawals For Marcellus Shale Gas Drilling In Western Pennsylvania
Nonetheless, DEP continues to encourage illegal water withdrawals
On July 26, the Allegheny Defense Project sent a letter to Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Secretary John Hanger challenging the agency’s statutory authority to permit water withdrawals for Marcellus Shale gas drilling in western Pennsylvania. Marcellus Shale Gas Well Hunting in The Branch-Coalbed Run Watersheds
Our hunting for PGE Marcellus Shale Gas well sites began on August 22nd. Bill Beltiskus and I searched the roads south of Mayburg for a path that would get us close to the Collins Pine in-holding south of The Branch and Coalbed Run where our Internet search of permitted wells on the PA DEP web site told us there would be two Marcellus Shale Gas wells and a number of water wells for High Volume Slickwater Horizontal Hydraulic Fracturing....more
