Apples, tulips, marijuana and potatoes - how can these four plants possibly make for an interesting documentary? They do and the viewer is presented with information that they have actually manipulated us. The Botany of Desire is fascinating and describes our relationship to these four plants. It gives the historical background of each and warns us of the dangers of monocultures and the decreasing food varieties available in the marketplace. Author and narrator Michael Pollan squarely places humans in nature and not above it or outside of it.
From Netflix: "While visiting places like Peru, Kazakhstan and Amsterdam, learn from author Michael Pollan as he explains the natural history of apples, tulips, marijuana and potatoes and describes how common plants such as these deftly manipulate human desires. Based on Pollan's best-selling book, this documentary encourages viewers to look at the world from a vastly different perspective and improve their relationships with nature."
