The U.S. has no baseline law protecting consumer privacy. As an editorial in The New York Times, March 18, 2011, puts it: "Considering how much information we entrust to the Internet every day, it is hard to believe there is no general law to protect people’s privacy online." The primary goal of the Take Back Your Privacy campaign is to get Congress to finally pass baseline consumer privacy legislation. The White House recently backed baseline legislation; now, it's time for Congress to act. Join us by signing and sharing this petition to Congress: The fact that the United States does not have a baseline privacy law is unacceptable. The public deserves legislation that will finally protect our privacy rights. The time is now: Pass baseline consumer privacy legislation. |
