Supporting Arizona Mothers. Stopping SB 1070

On May 9 and 10 women leaders from across the country are participating in an Emergency Women's Human Rights Delegation to Arizona. They will listen to the stories of women from migratory families in order to learn about and record the impact of SB 1070 on women and children. The delegation will join in a Mother's Day March on Monday, May 10 at 8:30 am from St. Matthews Church to the Capitol in Phoenix. Their findings will be announced at a press conference later that day. In addition, a report of the findings will be sent to the Congressional Caucus for Women's Issues and First Lady Michelle Obama. Join the growing movement of women across the country organizing to stop SB 1070.

2) Mobilize on May 29 for the National Day of Action Against SB 1070 in Phoenix Arizona

3) Organize local campaigns to end policies in your locality that allow for local police and immigration collaboration and open the door for policies like SB1070.

The passage of SB 1070 in Arizona is having a devastating effect on the people of Arizona, and women and children are at the front lines.  With the passage of this new law, local law enforcement will have free reign to detain and disappear mothers and to separate families.  Every time they walk their children to school or go to work, women in Arizona risk deportation or permanent separation from their children and families. We are concerned about the physical, psychological, and verbal abuses by law enforcement once women are detained and incarcerated. Furthermore, women in unsafe situations, such as sexual assault and domestic violence will not report out of fear of deportation. But the women of Arizona are not alone. Women around the country are standing with them. In honor of Mother's Day we call on women in Congress to take action against SB1070.
