Sequestration Will Hurt Our Economy and Families
(AUSTIN, Texas)—February 25, 2013—The Center for Public Policy Priorities Executive Director F. Scott McCown released the following statement today regarding sequestration, which will go into effect on March 1 unless Congress acts.
"We must deal with our federal budget deficit in a responsible way over the long term. That requires a balanced approach—one that includes reasonable tax increases and targeted budget cuts designed so that they do not damage our economic recovery.
"Sequestration will be extremely damaging to our economy and to American families. Unless Congress takes quick action, these more-or-less across-the-board cuts will go into effect on March 1. This link shows what the cuts would mean in Texas.
"We urge Congress to act now to protect the country from this irresponsible approach to our deficit."
