Dear Senator/Representative:
Every year, the federal government doles out nearly $4 billion in subsidies to the oil and gas industry, whose members make billions in profits every year.
Closing tax loopholes and subsidies to the oil industry would have positive impact on the federal budget by generating revenue for smart investment in our economy and avoiding indiscriminate cuts to programs that help businesses and the environment.
Instead of continuing to hand out billions of dollars a year to an industry which doesn’t need it, Congress and the President should end these subsidies to the oil and gas industry immediately, and use the money to invest in the improvements needed to move the economy forward, like rebuilding infrastructure and performing vital research on health and clean energy.
