Dear President Obama, Speaker Boehner, and Majority Leader Reid:
We, the undersigned organizations and individuals, want you to know that the most harmful impacts of the economic recession in this country have been suffered by the low income people, people of color, and women in our neighborhoods and communities. If our country is to experience full recovery, then all the members of our neighborhoods and communities must have the opportunity to participate in that recovery through good-paying, sustainable jobs.
We are committed to the work of creating and moving low income people into one million jobs over the next three years through Gamaliel’s Fire of Faith campaign. We have discovered important job creation models, like the Missouri Model, that lift low income, minority, and women workers out of poverty and into good-paying construction careers. We need you to support our work.
The American Jobs Act contains important provisions for job creation and infrastructure investment. We urge you to act collaboratively to make the passage of these legislative provisions your top priority—NOW—not after the November election. We will put one million people to work, but with your leadership we can do far more.
