Dear Friends,

What an historic and thrilling day!  When the news of the Supreme Court decision to uphold the health care law broke, the National Women’s Health Network office erupted in cheers.

We’re celebrating a tremendous victory for women and our families.
Millions of us already are benefitting from the many ways that the health care law has improved health access, and we stand to gain even more now that full implementation of the law can go forward.

The Court’s ruling means that insurance will cover more of what we need, when we need it.  Insurance companies can’t go back to their old abusive practices – if you have health insurance, you won’t have struggle with denials for coverage of pre-existing conditions, lifetime and annual limits on coverage, or policies that cost more, just because you’re a woman!   And you can’t be kicked out of your insurance plan because you get sick.  It also means that those of us who have been living with the economic insecurity of uninsurance will have new pathways to get covered, with financial help to make policies more affordable and millions more eligible to get coverage through Medicaid.

And keep in mind that we’re continuing to
count down to August 1, when the new coverage requirements for women’s preventive services go into effect  --  after that date, all new health insurance plans will be required to cover key women’s preventive services without charging us co-pays.  That includes contraception, breastfeeding support (including rental of breast pumps) and well-woman exams. Women and families will be healthier because of it, and we’ll save money!

I want to thank all of you for working side-by-side with the NWHN for so many years to move us closer to our goal of quality, affordable health care for all women.  I hope that wherever you are, you take a moment to celebrate the news – and keep standing with us going forward so we can deliver the full promise of the law to every woman living in this country, no matter what state she lives in or where she works.

We're ready to continue the work, but we need your help.  Please make a donation today to help us protect the law and build on it so that every woman will get the health care she needs.

Thank you,

Cindy Pearson
Executive Director
