Dear Council Member,

Thank you so much for voting to pass Chairman Kwame Brown's revised budget. The cuts to safety net programs this year would have been devastating and your leadership in supporting funding restorations and key investments will go a long way to help keep DC a diverse and dynamic city.

Thank you for restoring $18 million to the Housing Production Trust Fund, $23 million to the DC Health Alliance, $1.1 million to Victim's Services, and especially for making a new investment of $4 million to the Local Rent Supplement Program (LRSP) to get homeless families out of the shelter and into housing. And thank you for keeping $7M for Homeless Services at the top of the contingency list.

I understand this was a difficult budget, but I admit I am disappointed that the $2 million for project-based LRSP and impending $6 million in TANF cuts were not addressed or added to the contingency list. I deeply appreciate any support you can offer to get these items on the contingency list for the June 5th budget vote.

I am grateful for what you have been able to accomplish, and I look forward to your continued support in creating a budget that is responsive to residents' needs.
