The WIC program will face a 5.1% cut unless Congress comes to a sequestration compromise. This will require WIC clinics across the country to collectivley cut 600,000 mothers and young children from the program, and as many as 130,000 here in New York State. WIC provides nutrition and breastfeeding education, nutritious foods, and improved healthcare access for low and moderate income women with children. Nationally, WIC serves approximately 9 million mothers and young children per month, including 53% of all infants born in the U.S. 67% of NYC infants are eligible for WIC. We must protect this vital program from devastating cuts!
