If you don't live in any of the states that GetEQUAL is targeting this summer, or if you want to take an extra step in helping out, there are many ways to contribute. The action items below are focused on social networks, so that we can get a drumbeat going. The more we can make clear to legislators and their staff that ENDA is of vital importance to the LGBTQ community and allies, the stronger our chances of getting ENDA passed this year.
We'll give you more ways to take action as this campaign unfolds -- thank you for taking action!!
Help us out with intel: There are lead organizers in 15 states who are currently organizing other activists to take action in their home states -- and they all could use help tracking down information on where their legislators will be for the next few weeks. Search Facebook for the state group you're interested in helping (i.e. GetEQUAL AR) and see if they need help!
"Like" state GetEQUAL groups on Facebook: The more we can draw attention to the fact that there are LGBTQ people in every state across the country, the more that lawmakers will pay attention to the fact that some of their constituents are LGBT or are allies. Let folks in your social network know that you support the work of these state groups!
Change your Facebook status: Are you on Facebook? "Donate" your Facebook status to the cause so that your entire network sees the importance of ENDA for the LGBTQ community. Change your status to something like "Did you know that LGBT people have no federal job protections and many can be fired at-will by employers? Go to www.getequal.org/endasummer to find ways to take action in your state."
Change your Twitter status: Are you on Twitter? Post a short tweet to your feed to let your network know about the ENDA Summer campaign. We'd suggest something like "'I agree with U, I want 2 do it, now make me do it!' @NancyPelosi - Join @GetEQUAL #ENDA Summer campaign - http://bit.ly/9NcyIP -- Pls RT"
Use the "ENDA Summer" image on social networks: Feel free to lift the image at right to use as your profile picture on Facebook and/or Twitter to let people know that you support taking action to pass ENDA now!
